Sponsorfit Landing Page

Context

Sponsorfit is an online portal used by both internal employees and external clients to manage and administer AIG’s group retirement plans. The main scope of this project was a “lift and shift” without functionality changes, but our business partners wanted to launch the MVP with a new landing page that could be shown during sales demos. My team spent 3 design sprints dedicated to the redesign of the landing page, which kicked off with user research and a workshop with our stakeholders.

User Research + Insights

For our user research, we interviewed 8 Plan Sponsors about their relationship with the SponsorFIT digital product and AIG’s customer service team.

Users want ( and sometimes need ) guidance. They are often unsure in their own ability to successfully complete tasks or locate information on their own, especially when there’s a trusted and knowledgeable VALIC rep  available.

1

Plan Sponsors value their personal VALIC rep’s expertise. Many Sponsors do not feel the need to monitor their plans because they trust the AIG rep’s expertise in helping them locate the information they need and to alert them if anything requires their attention.

2

Organizations choose AIG / VALIC because of their service. Users often “wear many hats” at their organization, not just retirement management, and greatly appreciate having an expert to help with plan and participant questions.

Stakeholder Workshop

Our team hosted a workshop to understand the functionalities our business partners were hoping to include on the landing page.

Day 1

On the first day, we held sessions to facilitate blue-sky thinking: we broke into smaller teams to conduct competitive analysis research and sketching sessions. Our SMEs informed us about a quarterly report used by our client relationship managers to discuss group and plan performance with plan sponsors. Our business partners wanted to provide this data digitally and year-round which is something we saw our competitors doing.

Day 2

The second day was dedicated to finalizing the data points and functionalities we wanted on the new landing page. On this day we included our engineering team in the conversation to understand what data was realistic and available for our MVP. While it was not feasible to show historical data and trends for the MVP, we added that feature to our backlog for future releases.

Original Landing Page

We conducted a remote unmoderated usability test with 10 plan sponsors to test a few key features: announcements, change plan administrator, monthly contributions, and the plan summary and forfeiture balance components.

Usability Testing Findings

1. Alerts Component - Through testing, we learned that our users had a difficult time finding the annoucements section when the drawer component was closed, but thought that it took up too much space on the page when open. Also, users found it difficult to complete tasks because announcements are spread throughout different sections of the website.

2. Terminology - While some of our power users and retirement experts understood industry terminology, there were many other users who could not find information if they were unfamiliar with certain words used on the website.

Redesign

Based on our findings from the stakeholder workshop, user research and usability testing for the original landing page, we designed the new landing page.

Annoucements Section

1. We separated company wide annoucements from to-do notifications. By placing tasks in a notifications component that is accesed through the header, users can see their tasks regardless of which section of the website they are on.

GroupLevelInfo

Group Level Information

2. Group-level information for plan sponsors to see the general performance of a client, rather than just being able to see the individual plan level information.

Plan Level Information

3. Addition of data points that were originally only accessible through the reports generated by customer service representatives and available to sponsors during meetings. Now, sponsors have access to this information digitally.

4. Quick links for commonly performed tasks - ePrint, viewing plan details and changing the plan administrator.

5. Breakdown of asset allocations on both the group and plan level that makes it easier for sponsors to understand how their groups and plans are performing.

Glossary_ForPortfolio

Glossary

6. Addition of glossary to help Plan Sponsors of all levels understand the terms they need to succesfully monitor their plans. From our user research, we learned that some plan sponsors had to use outside resources in order to learn about or remember the definitions of these terms. We provided this glossary feature as a way to quickly access the definitions without relying on outside help.

Education Center

Education Center

7. Education center for helping Plan Sponsors feel like retirement experts through relevant articles that are curated by AIG about the services that are available to employees enrolled in these retirement plans.

UI Design

This new visual direction including typography styles, color combinations, and card design strongly influenced some of the core components designed in Hinge (link).

This website required a custom icons to match the finance terms that were used across the site.

I also added data visualizations to give some visual interest to an otherwise text heavy page.
